Traditional Kopi (“Coffee” in Malay) Tiam (“Shop” in Hokkien) were a common sight at the ground floor of public housing in Singapore. Typically, water is boiled over the same charcoal grill used to make butter toast, while reusable coffee socks are used to filter ground coffee.
